According to the TJSC (Court of Santa Catarina), the defendants committed crimes of double-qualified murder for a good cause and a resource that made it difficult to protect the victim, false imprisonment, torture, and hiding a corpse.
The three defendants, two men and one woman, have been provisionally arrested since December 2021 by the CIO (Criminal Investigation Division) of Laguna.
The woman, believed to be Amanda’s friend, was sentenced to 23 years and four months in prison. The second defendant was sentenced to 20 years and 10 months in prison, and the third defendant was sentenced to 20 years and four months in prison. All in original closed mode. They can’t move freely.
Remember Amanda’s death
The case happened at the end of 2021 and shocked the state. Amanda Albach, 21, was shot and buried in a shallow grave. The report on the disappearance of the young man was drawn up on November 16, when the police began an investigation.
A young woman from Parana was passing through Santa Catarina to celebrate the birthday of her friend, now convicted. They and two other defendants were supposed to be at a party in Florianopolis on the eve of Independence Day when Amanda disappeared.
According to investigators, upon returning to Laguna on the 15th, the trio kept the victim under false arrest. They suspected that Amanda would be connected to a rival criminal gang and take part in an ambush against them.
“The young woman would still be forced to send a message to her family members with the false information that she would leave for her homeland that night, in order to prevent further investigation of the crime. After that, she was taken to the beach, allegedly dug her own grave and shot. The corpse was hidden in the same place,” the MAL decision says.
Amanda’s body was found on December 3, after one of the defendants confessed to police where they had buried the body.
