The title was won thanks to a set of factors that take into account everything from police action to cooperation with the public. Criciuma is also the third safest city in Brazil among municipalities with a population of 200 and 500 thousand inhabitants.

Our goal is to continue to work hard to provide the public with an exceptional public safety service.”

Control and Operations Center (CCO) Criciúma

The service is part of a public school safety plan that aims to prevent incidents such as assault, theft, vandalism, and other acts of violence. The initiative was created after an attack on a kindergarten in Blumenau on April 5, when a man with an ax entered a small school and killed four children and wounded five others.

“The system is integrated, which means that City Hall teams through the CCO have real-time access to images that are connected to military police and fire protection systems,” Mayor Clezio Salvaro explains.

Opened in July this year and installed at the Civil Defense Headquarters, CCO is an indoor unit equipped with 18 65-inch screens that monitor 264 cameras installed in the vicinity of more than 60 schools in the municipality of Crisium. The system offers real-time monitoring and is designed to provide support in various situations.

The ranking is based on data from the Mortality Monitoring Group of the Secretariat for Surveillance for Health and the Environment (SVSA) of the Ministry of Health and the 2022 Census of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGS).

To define the concept of “intentional violent death”, the grouping of categories and data processing were carried out on the basis of the method of statistical classification of mortality CID-10 of the World Health Organization (WHO).
