Erineu Alves, 92, died this Wednesday (age 19) in an elevator accident. He was born in Lajes but lived in Montenegro, in the Porto Alegre metropolitan area in Rio Grande do Sul. The victim was accompanied by his wife at the time of the incident. They were pressed by the structure of the polyclinic.
Erineu died Wednesday evening, Rio Grande do Sul civil police delegate Andre Rose said. Already the wife of an elderly man was taken to a hospital in Montenegro. She is hospitalized.
The investigation indicates that the couple tried to enter the elevator on the ground floor of the site, the front door was open. However, the elevator was on the second floor and began to descend with a disabled person inside: “There was a failure in the door closing mechanism. This is what allowed the elders to enter, the door had to be locked,” Rosé says.
According to police, the elevator did not have an emergency button, and the person inside the elevator did not have enough time to notice the presence of the elderly.
The foreign key allowed the couple to get out of the elevator shaft, since the door was locked. When access was granted, they were already hit and pressed.
The technical expertise was carried out by the Engineering Department of the Main Institute of Expertise. There is a suspicion of manslaughter, which is still being investigated by the police.
