Gov. Jorginho Mello (PL-SC) unveiled this Friday (14th) Kazan’s detailed investment plan for the mayors of the Association of Santa Catarina Far West Municipalities. The plan provides 93.5 million reais for works and projects to improve water supply and sanitation in the municipalities of the region.

Of the total, 51.6 million reais will be allocated to sanitation and 41.9 million reais for expansion and water security. The plan was unveiled during the meeting of the Santa Catarina Levada a Sério + Close to You program in São Miguel do Oeste.

São Miguel do Oeste, the headquarters of the Association, should receive the most resources. 40 million reais will be invested in the construction of the city’s sewerage system. The system will have 66 km of sewer network, three pumping stations and will benefit 30% of the population with over 3800 connections.

To solve the problem of water shortage, a new raw water pipeline is being laid in the municipality. The pipeline will be 11 km long and will increase water withdrawals from the Flores River to provide the municipality with greater water security. “Thanks to this work, it will no longer be necessary to use water trucks to transport water, which is an emergency measure that Casan takes during periods of drought,” explained Pedro Joel Horstmann, director of production and expansion of the company.

The pipeline will cost approximately 14 million reais. The company is also preparing an integrated system project to serve São Miguel do Oeste, Bandeirante, Descanso, Guaraciaba and Paraiso, worth 1.3 million reais.

The work is part of a state government investment package to expand wastewater collection and treatment in Santa Catarina. Jorginho’s plan is to get out of the current 33% coverage and reach 50% by 2026. To do this, Casan must carry out work in 36 municipalities in the next three years.

Other municipalities that will also receive sewerage investments are Anchieta, Descanso, Dionisio Cerqueira and Guaruja do Sul.

• Dionisio Cerqueira – 6.5 million reais for water supply services and 1.9 million reais for sewerage services.
• Guaraciaba – BRL 1.7 million water services.
• Guaruja do Sul – BRL 300,000 for water supply services and BRL 500,000 for sewerage services.
• Ypora do Oeste – water services worth 6.9 million reais, including the construction of a new water treatment plant (ETA).
• Mondaí – BRL 1.4 million for water services
• Palma Sola – BRL 740,000 for water services
• Paraiso – BRL 425,000 for water services.
• São Miguel do Oueste – R$19.1 million for water services and R$40 million for sewerage services.
