PF (Federal Police) arrested three people at the crime scene during a major operation this Thursday morning (13). In the cities of Dionisio Cerqueira and Chapeco, in the west of Santa Catarina, six search and seizure warrants were issued.
According to the police, the action called “The Transporter” is aimed at eliminating a criminal scheme associated with the theft of wines and smuggling of contraband along the route Argentina – Brazil.
According to the PF, in addition to transporting wine without the appropriate customs and tax clearance, the defendants were also engaged in the theft of meat, shrimp, diesel fuel and pesticides.
Products, as indicated by the investigation, of foreign origin were sent to the cities of Sao Paulo, Parana, Rio Grande do Sul, as well as on the coast of Santa Catarina.
During the searches, the police found several boxes of contraband, a large amount of synthetic drugs and marijuana, as well as precision scales, cash, marketing packaging and a shotgun.
In addition to crimes related to embezzlement and smuggling, two of the arrested suspects are to be held accountable for crimes related to drug trafficking, and one of the individuals for illegal possession of firearms.
Those involved in the operation are under investigation for embezzlement, smuggling and the creation of a criminal organization, which carry a maximum penalty of up to eight years in prison.
The name Operation Carrier comes from a major scheme to illegally cross-border transport of inappropriate and contraband goods using a shipping company.
