The government of Jorginho Mello is doing in six months what eight previous governors have not been sensitive enough to: develop a Santa Catarina air transport plan.
The service order was signed yesterday at Fiesc headquarters in the presence of the governor, deputy, several secretaries, president Mario Aguiar and dean Irineu Sousa.
The work will be carried out by the Ufsc Transport Laboratory under the direction of Professor Wellington Repett and will identify airport potential, air transport challenges and needs in the state. The plan is for 20 years.
It is truly amazing that after 34 years, the government is only now taking on a problem that affects the entire population.
If Santa Catarina had a road network like São Paulo, air transport would not be so important for economic, industrial and social development and, above all, for the development of tourism.
Considered an archipelago of ethnic, industrial, cultural, geographical, and gastronomic islands, the nation has long suffered from modernity’s fast connections to commercial airlines to carry cargo and passengers.
Secretary Beto Martins demonstrates service and, not surprisingly, recognized competence. He has already decided to reopen the airports of Forquillinha, São Joaquim and São Miguel d’Ouest, strategically located and long deserving of proper air transport.
