At least two people were killed and 28 injured in a shooting early this Sunday (2) in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, according to local authorities.
Police received several calls about a shooting shortly after 00:30 Sunday (1:30 GMT) in that city’s Brooklyn area, Sheriff Rich Worley said at a news conference.
“When officers arrived, we identified several victims with gunshot wounds,” Worley said.
An adult woman was found dead at the scene. The other victim who died was also an adult. He added that nine victims were taken to nearby hospitals and another 20 to hospitals in the area.
The sheriff said he is trying to identify the suspect and establish a motive for the shooting.
“This is an absolute tragedy that should not have happened,” Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott said at a press conference.
According to the Violence Archive, the United States has the highest gun death rate of any developed country, with 20,200 deaths in 2022.
