Comseg (Joint School Safety Committee), a group of state legislators. representatives of the prosecutor’s office of Santa Catarina and other government agencies, has a schedule of trips abroad, starting in July this year.
In the opinion of the Committee, the aim is to find out in loco experiences and actions of cities such as Medellin (capital of Colombia), Boston and Denver (United States of America) – tourist destinations – to address the problems of violence.
The Council’s first destination is Medellin. According to President Alesc (Santa Catarian Legislative Assembly) and Comseg President MP Mauro de Nadal (MDB), the trip is tentatively scheduled for the 23rd and the representatives will be in Colombia until the 26th.
The city was chosen as a destination thanks to initiatives that changed the reality of the city, which in the 90s was considered the most dangerous in the world: “Today it is considered one of the safest in Colombia,” Nadal notes.
Similar missions are planned for the cities of the state of Sao Paulo. On Monday (26) the committee was waiting for the opportunity of the São Paulo government to fix the dates. Sao Paulo is the state with the most school attacks in the last 20 years.
“Boston and Denver are also in the spotlight. The group is also awaiting a response from contacts in the United States (United States of America) in order to determine the timing,” emphasizes Nadal.
The attack in Blumenau was the impetus for the creation of the group
The council was created after the attack on the kindergarten Cantinho Bom Pastor in Blumenau on 5 April. Four children were killed by a 25-year-old man who jumped over the wall of the institution. He used a hatchet to carry out the attack.
Comseg trips were foreseen when the group was founded. The purpose of the Council is, among other things, to establish three internal working groups to discuss physical constructs, pedagogical and investigative activities, and disseminate information about cases to the public.
In addition, six public hearings were scheduled at the foundation to listen to the population. Four have already taken place in Blumenau, Joinville, Lajes and Chapeco. Criciúma welcomes the public this Thursday (28) and Florianópolis on Monday (3).
