The actions of the Mapa (Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock) confiscated 41,000 liters of colonial wine in an unusual situation in Santa Catarina. The operation took place from 21 to 22 June in eight institutions of the municipalities of Salto Veloso, Pinheiro Preto, Tangara and Videira.

A total of four violation notices and 27 time limits were issued, including detention, sample collection and search, resulting in offenders losing approximately 478,000 reais as a result of detentions.

In addition to confiscating 41,000 liters of wine, the action also seized half a tonne of banned additives such as purple wine dye and sodium metabisulphite, as well as fake labels bearing the name “Colonial Wine”.

The inspection is part of Ronda Agro’s 39th Operation of the International Borders Agricultural Surveillance Program (Vigifronteira), which aims to curb conduct that leads to unfair competition with industries that comply with legal regulations in the production and sale of beverages and vinegar.

Marcos de Sa, manager of Vigifronteira, says the operation was intended to protect the interests of Brazilian consumers.

“We found in verified establishments the presence of additives that are not approved for use in products, that is, in addition to the fact that consumers are forced to pay dearly for an uncontrolled product, the drink can also endanger their health,” said Marcelo Mota. , wine and beverage inspection coordinator.

Operation Mapa was carried out in conjunction with the civil police and the scientific police of the state of Santa Catarina.

Videira Regional Police Chief Giovani Angelo Dametto said more than 20 police officers have been assigned to assist in the execution of search and seizure warrants issued by the district courts of Videira and Tangara.

“Police investigations will be launched to investigate possible criminal practices practiced by the companies being inspected, and the crimes committed may threaten public health, consumer relations and the tax order,” said Dametto.
