One person died and nine were injured Sunday (25 people) when a roller coaster at an amusement park in Stockholm, Sweden, derailed, police and establishment sources told AFP.
“Unfortunately, one person has died,” Gröna Lund spokeswoman Cecilia Björling said. The site has been evacuated. Military police and an ambulance were sent to the scene.
“We received a warning around 11:39 (08:39 GMT), the roller coaster derailed, several people were injured,” said Håkan Eriksson from the Swedish capital’s emergency service.
According to Stockholm police spokeswoman Helena Boström Thomas, the victims suffered injuries from a fall.
According to Swedish SVT correspondent Jenny Lagerstedt, who was at the scene, the car of the Jetline attraction apparently took off and fell from a great height, dragging several people with it.
“Suddenly I heard a knock and a metallic noise and then the toys started shaking,” he explained to the Swedish channel.
“My husband, who was sitting outside, saw the cart come off (from the toy) and fall.”
The Jetline roller coaster was opened in 1998, and its carriages move at an average speed of 90 km/h.
