Santa Catarina has authorized the transfer of 5.5 million reais for investment in the Carlos Alberto da Costa Neves Airport, located in Casador in the Midwest. The release was signed this Thursday (22) by Governor Jorginho Mello (PL-SC).
The funds under the agreement will be used to redesign the runway to improve the quality of the 1873-meter track. This step is necessary to maintain current operations and enable the return of commercial aviation.
Upon completion of this work, the airport will be able to apply for 3C certification and receive aircraft such as the ATR 72, 737, A319 and A320. “These improvements help boost the state’s economy by expanding flight routes and expanding our air network,” Mello said.
The airport is administered by the municipality on the basis of an agreement between the National Secretariat of Civil Aviation and the local mayor’s office. The airport currently offers general aviation services, air taxis, patient transportation, public safety, executive flights, and more.
With around 250 moves per month, it serves the regions of Alto Vale do Rio do Peixe and the Santa Catarina Midwest, serving around 500,000 residents.

Over the past 35 days, Mello has already announced the resumption of work at Forquilinha Airport, which continues ahead of schedule, investments in Lajes and São Joaquim airports, as well as operations at Dionisio Cerqueira Airport. The goal is to have all 21 airports operational by early 2024.
