The US Coast Guard on Wednesday (21), which was searching for a missing submarine carrying five people near the wreckage of the Titanic, found “underwater sounds” in the area where the disappearance occurred.

The US Coast Guard said rescuers searching for a missing submarine with five people near the wreckage of the Titanic have discovered “underwater noise” in the area of ​​the disappearance, amid fears the ship could run out of oxygen.

Communication with the 6.5-meter-long submersible Titan was lost on Sunday, nearly two hours after it began its descent towards the Titanic wreck.

The wreckage was found at a depth of almost 4,000 meters, about 600 kilometers from Newfoundland, in the North Atlantic.

“A Canadian R-3 aircraft detected underwater noise in the search area. As a result of the operation, ROVs (Remotely Operated Vehicles) were relocated in an attempt to investigate the source of the noise,” the U.S. Coast Guard District 1 said.

Searches for ROVs have “gave negative results but are ongoing,” the naval unit added.

According to Rolling Stone magazine, a Canadian P-8 aircraft involved in the search heard “a rumble in the area every 30 minutes. Four hours later, additional sonar was deployed and the rumble was still audible.”

In addition to these hits, “additional acoustic signals were heard that will help direct ground resources while maintaining hope of finding survivors,” CNN reported.

The noise detection announcement was the most encouraging sign, according to the Coast Guard.

On Titan were British millionaire Hamish Harding, chairman of Action Aviation; Pakistani Shahzada Daoud, vice president of Engro, and his son Suleman.

There were also the French diver Paul-Henri Nargeole, an expert on the sunken Titanic; and Stockton Rush, CEO of OceanGate Expeditions.

Ships and aircraft are heading to the site to support an extensive search operation deployed by the US and Canadian Coast Guards in the area.

The Pentagon announced the deployment of a third C130 aircraft and three C-17s, and on Wednesday an underwater robot sent by the French Oceanographic Institute will join the search.
