An attempted theft at a bank branch in a shopping center in the Fortaleza district of Blumenau, in the Itajai Valley, attracted security forces on Friday evening (2). It was around 9:50 p.m. when a security guard on site called the fire department after hearing the explosion and seeing the equipment on fire.
According to the military police, two suspects tried to steal money from the place and hacked into the equipment. However, the duo were unable to hold the action due to the large amount of smoke generated by the explosion of the ATM.
According to firefighters who arrived at the scene, before the rescuers arrived, the security guard of the shopping center even tried to put out the fire on his own with a dry chemical fire extinguisher, but could not do it.
Using respiratory protective equipment, firefighters entered the territory of the agency and managed to put out the fire with a carbon dioxide fire extinguisher. Then mechanical ventilation was carried out to reduce the concentration of smoke in the room.
Inside the bank, significant damage was caused to the hall where the ATMs are located and the corridor for supplying devices. The bank’s security inspector accompanied firefighters and police during the on-site inspection, unlocking all password-restricted areas.
According to firefighters, the corporation will conduct an examination to confirm the cause of the fire. In addition to the fire department and the military police, scientific police and civilian police teams were also present at the event and began the investigation required by the case.
