A young woman went missing for two days after she went for a walk and fell into a pit. Maria Cristina Simões Ferreira y Peña, 22, lost her balance and fell into a 10-meter-deep crevice last Friday (age 26) but was only found this Sunday (age 28).
It happened in Cachoeiro de Itapemirim, in Espirito Santo. Information provided by Metronews. A young woman was walking on a piece of land 80 meters from the family home when she lost her balance and fell into a hole.
UOL Maria Cristina’s father, lawyer Carlos Onofre, said his daughter fell into a small ravine and stopped in a crack about 40 centimeters long. When the family realized that the girl had not returned home, they reported her missing to the police.
“She is on medication for epilepsy and we were worried that she would run out of medication. On the same day, we started reporting her disappearance to the police. Everyone in the city was aware of the situation. We searched but couldn’t find her. We were very worried,” said the father.
Whispered cries for help pulled the young man out of the pit
The disappearance mobilized the police and the public, who began searching for Maria. She was found when a family acquaintance who was walking down the street shouting her name heard the young woman whisper for help.
The girl no longer had the strength to scream, but managed to publish a few whispers. The woman heard and called the fire department. The young woman was rescued with several bruises on her body and taken to a private hospital where she remains under observation.
Rescuers found that a young woman was stuck in a hole between a ravine and a stone house. Firefighters descended a ladder about 10 meters deep and were able to rescue a young woman who had bruises but was conscious.
“We have no idea how she survived. It was God. She screamed for two days. She told us that she called for help several times, but no one heard her. She was rescued at an angle of 150 °, with many abrasions on her body, but, thank God, now she is fine, alive and with us, ”said her father.
