On the afternoon of Tuesday (30), a truck of the military fire brigade crashed into a car while swerving away from a van with patients in Blumenau, in the Itajai valley. The team was driving down Bahia Street to take part in the incident when an accident occurred, about 500 meters from the corporation’s destination. Video of the incident was recorded by surveillance cameras.
The van involved in the accident arrived from Rio do Campo and was transporting four patients who were not injured. She was being driven towards the center along Rua Bahia when the driver decided to stop to return to a place where there was no crosswalk.
The truck was moving in the opposite direction and, in order to avoid colliding with an ambulance, entered the construction site and crashed into a car containing a family of three, including a father, mother and 10-month-old baby. The ambulance driver said he was on his way from Brusca to Timbo to pick up another patient.
Second Lieutenant Sergio dos Santos said that as soon as he saw the van stopped in the middle of the street, he decided to go to a nearby construction site. “My reaction is that there may be people in the ambulance. On the other side of the road, several vehicles were driving in the opposite direction, and as a result, they hit the construction site. He even touched the car, but, thank God, the tragedy was avoided,” he stressed.
The driver of the hit car, Claudinea Lima, said he had never been in an accident before. He also noted that he stopped when he realized that the driver of the van did not know the city.
“I stopped because of the van, which, I think, does not know the city. He tried to turn around in the wrong place, and a fire truck was driving ahead, which slowed down, and I saw that it was going straight for me. [No carro] It was me, my wife and 10 month old baby. Glad no one got hurt.”
