Two foreigners wanted for crimes in their countries of origin were located and detained by the Federal Police in Florianopolis this Thursday (18) and Friday (19). Both were on the Interpol Red List, which means that arrest warrants were issued for them. One of those wanted was a Russian citizen, the other was a Uruguayan.

After proper enforcement of preventive arrest warrants for extradition issued by the Federal Supreme Court, the detainees were handed over to the prison authorities, where they will remain until final extradition to the requesting countries in accordance with the normal legal procedures has taken place.

The Russian is associated with a criminal organization

Last Thursday (18), a Russian citizen was detained in the state capital, wanted on charges of embezzlement, ideological lies and criminal complicity. The Federal Police of Santa Catarina, with international cooperation, conducted an investigation, which resulted in the location and arrest of the fugitive, also counting on the support of the military police.

Uruguayan wanted for murder

The second arrest occurred with a citizen of Uruguay on Friday (19). A foreigner responds to a trial on charges of committing the crimes of murder and attempted murder.

The Santa Catarina PF has already carried out two active extraditions, three passive extraditions, participated in the arrest abroad of five fugitives from Brazilian justice, and also arrested five foreigners wanted in Santa Catarina in 2023 alone.

Murder is the most common crime committed by Brazilian citizens on the Interpol list.

There are currently 96 Brazilians on the Interpol wanted list. Among these fugitives abroad, murder is the most common crime, followed by drug trafficking, robbery and rape, according to Metropoles.
