During the paving of some streets in the hinterland of Urusanga, in the south of Santa Catarina, two wooden bridges were covered with asphalt. The work was carried out in the communities of Alto Rio Molha and Rio Barro Vermelho.
“I am not an engineer, but I am sure that a wooden bridge without any structure will not support the weight of the asphalt. Where is the public safety? There is no point in such work,” said adviser Louan Varnier.
After a riot with the situation, the adviser filed a petition demanding clarification about the paving of bridges. The mayor’s office released a note explaining the situation.
According to the city administration, plans for asphalting the inner part of the city already provide for the pavement of wooden bridges.
“This is due to the need to level the track, to ensure the comfort and safety of those who travel on these roads,” the note says.
“This does not exclude the organization of projects that provide for the replacement of structures with concrete bridges in the future. However, at the moment, the biggest desire of the local population is the paving of roads,” he concludes.
