The STF (Federal Supreme Court) formed a (2) majority on Tuesday to keep former federal deputy Roberto Jefferson in custody.
It is worth recalling that the former parliamentarian was arrested in October 2022 after offering armed resistance to the enforcement of an arrest warrant issued by Minister Alexandre de Moraes.
According to Agência Brasil, the warrant was issued after Jefferson posted a video online in which he insulted Minister Carmen Lucía with profanity.
At the same time, the former congressman fired a rifle and threw grenades at the police officers who arrived at the scene. In connection with this episode, the Federal Police charged him with four attempted murders, and he became a defendant.
So far, six ministers have spoken out in favor of keeping the prison. Carmen Lucia, the target of Jefferson’s attacks, did not vote and declared herself a suspect in the case.
In addition to speaker Alexandre de Moraes, ministers Edson Fachin, Diaz Toffoli, Gilmar Mendez, Rosa Weber and Luis Roberto Barroso voted in favor of keeping the prison.
Voting takes place in a virtual plenary session of the Court in which Ministers enter their votes into an electronic system and there is no face-to-face discussion. The trial will last until 23:59.
After the arrest, the defense of the former deputy announced health problems and tried to transfer him from the Bangu 8 prison in Rio de Janeiro to a hospital, but the request was denied.
