Faced with the feeling of insecurity experienced by many family members and students in Santa Catarina, the Florianopolis educational network has taken some steps to reassure the population. The action developed by the Municipality of San José and the initiative of Aemflo (Business Association of the Florianopolis Metropolitan Region) and CDL (Chamber of Store Owners) aims to promote safety and peace in schools.
The San José City Hall has announced some measures to improve security at 64 of the city’s main educational institutions. Some of these include strengthening the GMSJ (San Jose Municipal Security) school bypass and installing an app with a panic button that activates in situations of possible attacks.
Also, the leadership of the municipality promised to install turnstiles with metal detectors at the entrances to school buildings and monitor the external and internal educational blocks. Devices must be purchased after a review period by teams from education departments and municipal administration.
Greater Florianopolis Private Schools Initiative
NED (Nucleus of Educational Managers) from Aemflo and CDL from San Jose are taking a number of measures to ensure the safety of students, families and staff of 27 schools in Florianopolis, San Jose, Palos, Tijucas, Canelinha, Santo Amaro. Yes, the Empress and Itapema.
Approximately 50 leaders and staff from these schools attended a safety course with trained professionals this Thursday (20). The goal was to promote safety procedures in these educational institutions.
“Today we found that such cases occur frequently. In 2022 alone, there were 10 deaths,” warned NED General Coordinator Fernanda Arsenio.
After the course, the schools have already taken effective action, such as hiring additional security staff for the schools, installing locks on the doors, and training teams. Schools are looking for alternatives to prevent these incidents by offering advice on how to adapt them in schools and individual consultations in each educational unit.
The course was an initiative of the managers themselves to carry out actions in their schools. “Security and education must go hand in hand,” Fernanda stresses.
