After the attack on a kindergarten in Blumenau, in the Itajai Valley, several cities in the region continue to announce increased security for municipal educational institutions. In all of them, students returned to classes earlier this week.
In Timbo, City Hall announces that on Tuesday (11) it has launched a package of measures to make units more secure. All entrance gates to schools and kindergartens are completely locked, access is allowed only to students and educators.
At the entrance to each block, the instructor, identified by a vest and badge, controls the entry and exit of students and faculty. The military police are also working with rounds and surveillance, which is carried out at the door of public schools.
This Tuesday (11), around 6:30 am, Mayor Jorge Kruger (PP) visited the training blocks, accompanying the implementation of security measures. According to the mayor’s office, an executive project to hire school security guards should be sent to the city council this week.
About 400 security cameras were announced to be installed, as well as strengthening walls and gates at public schools.
Rodeo
On Saturday (8), an accordion fence was erected over the walls of the Santo António Public School in the city center. The unit was already under threat of attack at the end of last month, and classes have resumed.
The municipality also plans to install a revolving door with a metal detector at the Escola Santo Antônio school, in addition to facial recognition devices and reinforcements on walls, fences and entrance gates at other schools and kindergartens in the municipal educational network.
Rodeyo City Hall says it is also in talks to rent surveillance cameras in public areas around schools and daycares, including real-time virtual remote access for parents. There are also plans to install cameras inside vehicles that are used for school transport, in addition to installing panic buttons and other devices integrated with police forces.
Benedito Novo and Dr. Pedrinho
A meeting was held in Doutor Pedrinho on Monday (10) to discuss improvements in security measures to be taken when school resumes, which took place on Tuesday (11).
The city has temporarily suspended all outside activities. Indoor spaces such as classrooms, cafeterias and sports centers will be closed during school hours.
From this Wednesday (12) there will also be a private surveillance service in Doutor Pedrinho, at the Chapeuzinho Vermelho Early Childhood Education Center, at the Frei Bruno Linden School and at the Fritz Donner School. The municipality is evaluating the feasibility of continuing to outsource the service or the need to establish a permanent post of school security guard.
In Benedito Novo, classes also resumed on Tuesday (11) with a three-shift police raid and improvements to the fencing and gates of the classrooms. According to the Municipal Minister of Education, the multidisciplinary command service is provided with emotional support to students and education professionals.
Pomerode and Rio dos Cedros
In the city of Pomerode, classes also resumed on Tuesday (11) and a meeting was held in the afternoon to assess what still needs to be done. The personnel of a private monitoring company, which has a contract with the municipality, are already on the job and are being mobilized into units in the most vulnerable regions.
More than 450 members of the municipal educational network have already received first aid training from Pomerode volunteer firefighters last year, according to City Hall. The municipality is also negotiating to improve the intercoms that exist in the city’s schools, as well as to introduce facial recognition systems.
In Río dos Cedros, the Escola Básica Municipal Expedicionário Servino Mengarda also announced reinforcement measures during the departure and arrival of students, as well as during rest hours.
According to the bloc’s social media, parents and guardians can only enter the bloc at designated times and under the supervision of school specialists. The area is also patrolled by military police.
