As of this Monday, Santa Catarina will have 17 municipalities with infrastructure for 5G (27). The Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications authorized operators to request the deployment of a fifth-generation mobile communication infrastructure in 44 cities in the southern region.
The decision was made during a meeting of the 3625 to 3700 MHz Interference Solutions Implementation Monitoring Group (Gaispi) established by the 5G Notice.
17 cities were allowed in Santa Catarina, including Balneario Camboriu, Blumenau, Bocaina do Sul, Camboriu, Capao Alto, Chapeco, Cocal do Sul, Criciuma, Guabiruba, Guatambu, Ilhota, Lajes, Luis Alves , Otasiliou Costa, Palmeira, President Nereu. and São João do Itapério.
The state with the highest number of permits was Rio Grande do Sul, with 19 municipalities. These are: Alto Feliz, Arroyo do Padre, Barao, Cristal, Gramado, Harmonia, Makine, Parechi Novo, Pelotas, Picada Cafe, Rio Grande, Riozinho, Salvador do Sul, Santa Maria, Sao Jose do Norte, Sao José do Sul, San Pedro da Serra, Tupande and Uruguayana.
There were only eight of them in Parana: Cascavel, Guarapuava, Marialva, Marilandia do Sul, Maringa, Matinos, Ponta Grossa and Telemaco Borba.
“We are following this process of releasing the 5G band and rolling out the technology across the country. We have moved forward in the discussion so that operators can offer this service as quickly and efficiently as possible. In this way, we can increasingly promote decent digital accessibility for all citizens,” said Minister of Communications Giuscelino Filho.
A total of 682 municipalities have already cleared the 3.5 GHz band and are ready to roll out the service. By the end of this semester, around 1,600 cities are estimated to have already been vacated to host 5G network infrastructure.
Authorization and deployment
Permissions take place when the migration of open and free-to-air television reception via satellite dishes in the C-band to Ku-band satellite is completed. The announcement of the auction also guaranteed the investment of the winning operators to distribute the kits that were to be received by those registered on CadÚnico, the list of beneficiaries of the federal government’s social programs.
The release of the range does not involve the immediate installation of 5G networks in communities, since, according to the notice, the commitment expires in 2025. The proposed installation of 5G stations in these cities depends on the planning and commitment of each provider.
