The PRF (Federal Highway Police) rescued three wild birds and 10 baby turtles on a BR-153 in Concordia, Alto Uruguay region. Animals were found in the car during the drive on Saturday (04).
Birds of the Sanhaço de Encontro Amarelo species, protected by law, were kept in a cage and two perforated milk cartons. 10 baby water tiger turtles were also in the milk carton.
The environmental military police were called and took the animals to be returned to their original habitat. The driver said he would deliver the birds and turtles to a man who would be waiting for them at the Concordia bus station.
The suspect will respond to the detailed date of occurrence of the crime related to the trapping and transportation of wild flora species without the permission of environmental authorities.
