The Federal Police will be able to access the TSE (Higher Electoral Court) biometric data system as part of an investigation into the organizers and participants of anti-democratic actions on January 8. Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the STF (Supreme Federal Court) has authorized the TSE to provide data on individuals under investigation.
The request was submitted by the PF itself, which argued the need to identify persons who took part in the commission of crimes, “including inciting or encouraging them on social networks.” According to Minister Alexandre de Moraes, this measure is related to the progress of the investigation.
“Given its obvious importance to the clarification of the investigation, I authorize the Superior Electoral Court to provide biometric verification services to the Federal Police,” Moraes said in the decision.
The minister also ordered the Senatram (National Traffic Authority) and ITI (National Institute of Information Technology) to provide the federal police with biographical data and photographs of the registrants. The transfer of information must be carried out in compliance with the security measures provided for by the General Data Protection Act.
