Police officers from the BOPE (Special Police Operations Battalion) who practiced physical activity at km 202 BR-101 in Barreiros, San Jose helped a woman who was in a psychotic breakdown on a footbridge that crossed the highway.
On the spot, the police spoke to a 34-year-old woman, who all the time showed mental confusion and repeated that there was no other option but to commit suicide, and that the podium was of considerable height, so if she jumped, she would definitely not survive.
Employees at an Arteris toll booth near the scene reported an ambulance that had remained at the scene while awaiting police action.
Corporal Sagas and Soldado Kruber were the first to intervene and walked down the path until they reached the woman. The team was extremely vigilant, as as they approached, they noticed that, in addition to the lines indicating a suicide attempt, she also had what appeared to be a handwritten note with her name and phone number tied around her waist.
After about an hour of talking with the woman, the police managed to prevent the worst. The woman was placed in an ambulance for first aid and then transferred to the IPQ (Institute of Psychiatry) in San Jose.
