Nine people were shot at and four were killed in the municipality of Campo Ere, in the extreme west of Santa Catarina, on Saturday evening (21). According to civilian police, the suspects are two brothers, only one of whom is under arrest.
According to the military police, the crimes took place in a wine cellar in the community on November 12 shortly before 9:30 pm. When the brigades arrived at the scene, three women aged 18, 35 and 53 and a 63-year-old man had already been killed in the house, all were shot. They were a husband, wife, daughter and another woman who was on site during the massacre.
Three other men aged 26, 41 and 51 were injured, two of whom refused medical attention and one had to be taken to the city hospital for a health assessment. Two women were also victims of the attack, but police did not say if they were injured.
A civilian police investigation revealed that the shooter was a 32-year-old man who was accompanied by his 38-year-old brother, who is under arrest. The other remains missing. The cause of the massacre may have been the suicide of the brother of the suspects on Saturday afternoon, motivated by family problems.
Other details, such as the names of the victims and suspects and their family ties, were not disclosed by the Civil Police, who summarized the case in a short note sent to the press.
“This is information that can be shared up until now so as not to jeopardize ongoing investigations,” Delegate Vilherme Negrao said in the text. The investigation is being conducted by the Fonteira de Campo Ere police station.
