A man accused of attempting to detonate a tanker truck bomb at Brasilia airport turned himself in to civilian police last Tuesday (17). The bomb was placed on a truck bound for the airport on 24 December and failed to detonate due to detonator failure.
Alan Diego dos Santos reported this to the police station in Comodoro, about 677 kilometers from Cuiaba. In addition to him, Wellington Macedo de Souza and George Washington de Oliveira Souza are accused of the crime.
In a statement to the police, George Washington, who was the first to be arrested, stated that the intention was to draw attention to the camp set up in the urban military sector and to the movement contesting the election results.
The camp was dismantled after January 8, following the invasion of the National Congress, the building of the STF (Federal Supreme Court) and the Planalto Palace.
Invasions in Brasilia
The protesters broke through the blockade of the Esplanada dos Ministerios by the Military Police of the Federal District and on January 8 broke into the building of the National Congress in Brasilia.
The actions were organized by people who do not agree with the victory of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in the 2022 elections.
The video shows the damage done by STF and Planalto. Destroyed paintings valuable to Brazil’s history, defaced furniture and the structure of public buildings are some of the reported damage.
