A 58-year-old man died this morning in a fire at a hotel located in the Eixample district of Barcelona, from where about eighty people were evicted as a result of the fire. Barcelona City Council reported this Saturday that a fire broke out shortly after 2 a.m. in a room in an apartment building. The hotel is located at 208 Rue Count Borrell..

The fire, the origin of which is now being investigated by the Mosso family, started in a room on the third floor, and about eighty people were evicted as a preventive measure. Flames engulfed the third, fourth, and fifth floors of the establishment, although all but six of those evicted were later able to return to their rooms. Those who could not do this were moved to another hotel in the city.

As a result of the fire, emergency medical personnel (SEM) treated three people who received minor injuries and did not have to be transferred to any medical center. Nine Barcelona fire brigades, city police officers and six SEM units participated in the extinguishing work.
