From November 7 to 11, courts across the country will be mobilized to participate in the National Reconciliation Week initiated by the CNJ (National Council of Justice). The proposal for this 17th edition is to focus efforts across the various branches of the judiciary—state, federal, and labor—to resolve as many cases as possible. This year’s theme is “Less Conflict, More Initiation”.
During 2021, more than 1.9 million conciliation hearings were held and more than 24.6 million judgments were signed. During the Week of Reconciliation, about 90,000 hearings were held for 533,161 verdicts.
Each court chooses processes with the possibility of reaching an agreement and calls on the parties involved to seek a solution to the conflict. “The guiding principles of the resolution are informality, simplicity, procedural economy, speed, orality, and procedural flexibility,” the board explains. Anyone interested in participating can apply directly to the court.
But National Reconciliation Week isn’t the only time people can turn to mediation to resolve conflicts. Judicial Centers for Conflict Resolution and Citizenship (Cejusc) is a space where processes can be streamlined and litigation often avoided.
Among the issues that may be resolved at these hearings are conflicts related to condominium expenses, debt in general, lease agreements, neighbor law, consumer protection law, foreclosures, regulation or termination of a stable union, custody, alimony and regulation. visits, among others.
