Florianopolis City Hall released this Sunday afternoon (16) a plan to rebuild city streets after heavy rains. This became known after the meeting of the mayor of Florianopolis Topazio Neto with representatives of the secretariat at the municipal headquarters of civil defense on Sunday. The goal was to assess the damage and announce the first action due to the heavy rains of the past few days.

According to the civil defense of Florianopolis, 171mm of rain fell through the Epagri/Chiram platforms in the last seven days in Florianopolis. The historical average for the whole of October is 133 mm, and 192 mm of precipitation fell in 15 days.

The main flooding events were reported in the areas of Ingleses, Rio Vermelho, Morro das Pedras and Campeche. Damage was recorded from street flooding, potholes, sewer problems and landslides, but no major incidents.

According to Mayor Topazio, the impact of the flooding has not been large due to investments made by the mayor’s office in recent years in cleaning up ditches and storm drains.

“Now we will work on a list of pothole streets that need urgent improvement. To enhance this work, we will also use hydrojet engines from this Sunday, ”he said.

The weather forecast, according to the municipal civil defense, for this Monday (17) is that the rain will bring a truce, allowing work to begin in the most affected areas. The Infrastructure Secretariat teams will focus on a list of approximately 30 of the most affected streets. To this end, Florianopolis City Hall has set up a rapid response task force with asphalt restoration and drainage actions.

According to Florianópolis Civil Defense, there are four registered displaced persons in the city. The collapse of a wall between two residential buildings required a temporary ban on the construction of one of the houses in the Capoeiras area. Everyone preferred to stay with relatives and therefore there are no homeless people.
