A 43-year-old man had about 80% of his body burned after a fire broke out in the laundry room of a house in Lajes, Serra Catarinense, on Tuesday evening (11). Two garrisons from the 5th BBM (Military Fire Battalion) moved to Florianopolis Street in the Coral area at 21:24.
When they arrived, they discovered that it was the early stage of a fire. The fire has already been extinguished by the residents of the affected house. The fire started in the laundry room of the hostel. The area is about 4 square meters.
The victim was lying on a mattress in the laundry room when the fire started. When the garrisons arrived, the man was sitting outside the room. He was disoriented and had 1st and 2nd degree burns on his head, face, neck, back, chest, abdomen, arms and legs, totaling about 80% of his body with burns.
The body of the victim was cared for, surgical drapes moistened with saline were applied to the burnt areas, and oxygen therapy was performed at a rate of 4 liters per minute.
Samu took the man to Nossa Senhora dos Prazeres hospital. There is no information about his health status.
It is still unclear what started the fire. Also on the 5th BBM, only the mattress burned down in the laundry room and part of the PVC wall melted. One of the garrisons collected information from witnesses for an examination.
