The already old and controversial project for a second runway at Navegantes Airport on Santa Catarina’s north coast could become a reality once the proposal returns to the terminal’s master plan, which also warrants investment to expand the existing runway and passenger terminal.

This topic was dropped from the airport concession notice, despite requests from businessmen and organizations such as Facisc (Federation of Santa Catarina Business Associations) and ACIN (Navegantes Business Association), who have been debating the issue for at least 20 years. years.

According to the current president of the association, Werner Ditterle, this is an old ACIN fight. “ACIN will continue to follow the investment schedule of CCR and will make every effort to complete the construction of this important and fundamental equipment for the development of the entire region. This is a moment of optimism, but also of great attention and focus to make this project really possible,” Werner emphasized.

Excluded from the auction, the second runway has already been part of the airport’s master plan since 2013. According to CCR Aeroportos, the area intended for the second runway will be retained and considered among the next investments. “It is important to emphasize that any investment outside the scope of the contract must first be approved and monitored by the authorized body,” the company said in a statement.

The concessionaire has internally approved in the business plan the construction of a new passenger terminal with more capacity, space for shops and services, which will provide more comfort for its customers.

Existing track will be expanded

In addition to the possibility of a second runway, CCR has confirmed a 100-metre extension to the already existing runway, which increases capacity to handle larger aircraft that may be arriving from more distant locations, “even facilitating cargo transportation.” . Another improvement is the implementation of “evacuation zones” in case any aircraft goes off the runway.
