The renovation of the Largo Menezes warehouse on Praia da Saudade, in the mainland area of ​​Coqueiros in Florianopolis, is getting another chapter with the signing of the work order. The document was signed by Mayor Topazio Neto and Infrastructure Minister Walter Gallina this Wednesday (21).

Construction of the new warehouse will take one year and the work will be carried out by Construtora Neves & Goulart Ltda. The works correspond to an investment of R$ 2,480,726.49.

The structure, facing the sea to the islet, is 95 meters long and three meters wide, and its total area is 301.89 m². This is land owned by the Navy and, therefore, is the territory of the allied heritage, which can be used by individuals or legal entities through the transfer of use.

The work is carried out in accordance with the request of the State Public Ministry and will be carried out by the Municipal Infrastructure Department.

In the past, the pier gave access to the islet, which was home to Arrastão in the 1960s and Beliscão in the 1970s.

The new pier will be built on the site of the Rua Vereador José do Vale Pereira that existed at the end, as the “skeleton” of what remains will eventually be demolished.

“The biggest difference is that the old pier was all concrete, and what will replace it will be of the same material, however, with a deck-type wooden flooring, since it will serve not only as a pedestrian crossing, but also there is a contemplation area with benches and a gazebo,” Mayor Topazio Neto explains.

Minister of Infrastructure Valter Gallina emphasizes that the new warehouse on Praia da Saudade has been a long-standing demand of the residents and regulars of the place. “It will be another attraction for tourism development, along with the new Coqueiros promenade, which is already under construction,” he said.

Secretary for Continental and Metropolitan Affairs Guilherme Pereira recalls that the pier at Praia da Saudade is part of the history of Coqueiros.

“In the 1960s and 70s, the best beaches were on the continent, and on vacation, families would come here for vacation time. At the end of the pier, the Arrastão restaurant was famous and frequented by locals and tourists alike. The reconstruction of the warehouse and the possible construction of a cafe/observatory/cultural space on the islet will certainly become a new tourist destination and recreation area in the city,” he said.

Revitalization of the Coqueiros promenade

The entire coastline of Coqueiros has been renovated since the first half of June, so that the 770 meters of continuous extension that make up the beaches of Riso, Saudade and Mayo, in that order, towards Abraan will be renovated.

Among the various equipment that will be installed, the new decks will stand out, which will have metal railings and stairs to access the beach, just like on the upper level. They are extremely wide precisely in order not to cause inconvenience to pedestrians on the way to the shore, on high tide days.

The work also includes the restoration of small paved sidewalks along the beaches; installation of outdoor furniture, including backless wooden benches and trash cans; performing landscaping with planting grass in the flowerbeds around the palm trees, as well as planting shrubs and ornamental trees – currently only palm trees – and making raised paths in the rolling walkways in front of the edge for better access to the decks.

In Praia do Rizo, the first site to be refurbished, piling has already been completed, the deck structure is being assembled, and concrete curbs are being installed for the construction of sidewalks.

The services are performed by the STC contractor – Serviços de Terraplanagem e Construção Ltda. and finish it by March next year.

The total investment is R$ 7,010,277.77.
