This Tuesday (20) MP-SC (Ministry of State of Santa Catarina) convicted Leonardo Proencio, 22, for the crime of robbing 24-year-old dentist Rafael Caranhato in Freiburgo, Midwest, and transporting drugs for personal use. It happened early Friday morning (16) in Caranhato’s apartment.

The court has already received the complaint. “It was a barbaric crime that had a great resonance in society, the author of which must bear severe responsibility,” says Fernanda Morales Justino, prosecutor of the 1st District Attorney of Freiburgo.

Rafael dined with Leonardo, lay down and was attacked with a penknife. The first blow was delivered to the neck, followed by several blows to the face, chest, stomach, arm and hand.

Then, according to the deputy, Leonardo stole bank cards, various goods and valuables and cut off the finger of a dentist in order to withdraw money using digital.

Around 7:30 am, the defendant left the scene in the victim’s car, taking the stolen items and valuables. He stopped at a branch of the Banco do Brasil and withdrew another 2,000 reais with the fingerprints of the severed finger. At first, the military police reported that it was about 6,000 reais.

Colleagues noticed the absence of a dentist and called the military police, he was found dead in the apartment. The victim’s license plate was handed over to the state security services, and the car was in Ibiram, 190 km from Freiburgo.

The accused was arrested at the scene of the crime with the stolen items, money, the knife used in the crime, a marijuana cigarette, and the victim’s finger wrapped in a napkin. He was placed on remand at his custody hearing and will be responding to the arrest process.

O BUT+ listened to the lawyer who represented Leonardo at the trial, and, according to the professional, did not comment on the crime. She had already left the building, not feeling comfortable and stayed. The defendant does not yet have a lawyer.

Who is the suspect?

The name of the suspect in the murder of a dental surgeon is Leonardo Proencio. According to the Military Police, he is 22 years old, has a history of threats, home invasions and other crimes. The young man also has two convictions for bodily harm.

Leonardo describes himself on social media as a Flamengo fan, single and a young man with few friends. On one of the few photos on Instagram, he writes: “Anyone who sees it in this form cannot even imagine.” In another: “More and stronger. More and more angry.”

Proencio attended the custody hearing at noon on Saturday (17). The judge confirmed that the detention at the scene of the crime had taken place in accordance with the law and converted the detention into preventive detention. The young man is in the regional prison of Rio do Sul, where he must remain until the final verdict.

After the dentist was murdered, the defendant still took a shower in the victim’s apartment and left his blood-stained clothes on the property, Science Police said.

According to criminal expert Marcio Bolzan, the team found stains of diluted blood in the toilet stall, indicating Proencio took a shower before leaving the area. The suspect was still wearing the dentist’s uniform.

According to preliminary information from the Science Police, Caranhato was killed with four blows, possibly a knife to the chest and a deep cut to the neck. Also, according to the examination, the dentist had bodily injuries, indicating that he tried to hold the murder weapon and defend himself from aggression.

Images obtained by ND+, which will not be released out of respect for the family, show the room where the dentist was found dead with multiple bloodstains and everything upside down. On the bed lay Karanhato’s guitar, boxes and accessories.

“Some blood stains may indicate that the perpetrator was injured during the commission of the crime,” Bolzan said. Forensics collected fingerprints from the glasses that were on the table, and according to the expert, some of them were compatible with Proencio’s fingerprint. The official DNA test was not yet completed on Monday (19).

According to the scientific police, death occurred early Friday morning, around midnight, when neighbors heard a noise in the dentist’s apartment, which is located on the second floor of the building. Small coin safes were also raided.
