On rainy days, the risk is even greater, and the high speed at which cars move around the highway adds to the feeling of insecurity for those who depend on long distances for their daily commute. The situation is being monitored by the president of Codeni (Council for the Development of the North of the Island), Luis Cesar Costa, who claims that he has already filed complaints, but has not yet found a solution to the problem.

According to Costa, “The state infrastructure minister and also the municipal secretary were asked why this section wasn’t covered, and they said it was because the bid didn’t cover it. So they weren’t able to do this site and maybe they would have submitted a new application, but so far we don’t have any news about any lighting project for this site.”

The site on SC-401 is not the only one that has problems in the Capital. The new access to the international airport in the south of the island is also facing lighting problems. More than one spot on the road is dark, even with poles and lights already in place.

In the south of the island, in addition to the lack of security in transit, the problem is caused by the lack of public safety. Several episodes of theft of electrical wiring have already been recorded. The MPSC (Ministry of State of Santa Catarina) is closely monitoring this issue.

Prosecutor Daniel Paladino said he would intervene with the State Department of Infrastructure and Mobility to address the issue in both the north and south of the island.

“Regarding access to the airport, there is information that some posts are not placed properly. We already have an inspection scheduled for next week, on Thursday (22), and we have already sent a recommendation to the Department of Infrastructure so that, within a period not exceeding 45 days, it will place the remaining posts and even replace the necessary reflectors, ”said Paladino.

Also, according to the prosecutor, “with regard to SK-401, we sent a letter to the Department of State Infrastructure with a request for any project to illuminate this place.”

The surroundings of both sites in the dark are in the forest. The possibility of an animal crossing the road without lighting further increases the risk of an accident. Therefore, the request of the community to act urgently before the worst happens.
