Swiss tennis player Roger Federer, winner of 20 Grand Slams and one of the best tennis players in history, announced his final retirement from the sport on Thursday at the age of 41.

“As many of you know, the last three years have been a challenge for me due to injuries and surgeries, I have worked hard to get back to my best shape, but I also know the limitations of my body and its messages. He sent me everything clearly, ”explains Federer in his social networks.

“I’m 41 years old, I’ve played over 1,500 matches in 24 years, tennis has been more generous to me than I ever dreamed of, and we must recognize when it’s time to end my professional career,” added the Swiss, who will play last tournament: “The Laver Cup next week in London will be my last ATP tournament. I will certainly play more tennis in the future, but not more at the Grand Slams or the Tour.

The Swiss, who has not competed since Wimbledon last year, will play his final tournament next week at the Laver Cup at the O2 in London.
