The promise of a new Rendeiras Avenue disappointed the residents and merchants of Lagoa Conceisan. A postcard from Florianopolis and one of the most visited places on the island, the place has been turned into an endless construction site. Work began in October 2020 and delivery is scheduled for February 2021. The project includes new sidewalks, bike paths, decking and landscaping. Everything is very different from the scenario found today.

“It is unpleasant. It’s hard for us to walk. Difficult to move. The traffic got worse. It has always been a difficult movement, and with the work in progress it has become even more difficult. The condition of the people who live here is also worrying. People who have to go to Centrinha, for example, have places where people’s lives are in danger,” said resident Andrea Vieira Zanella.

One who walks along the avenue meets several obstacles on his way. Materials were left behind, machines stopped, parts were left unfinished. ESE Engenharia won the tender.

Residents are wondering if the company really has the technical capacity to carry out the work, since the workers did not even use PPE (personal protective equipment).

According to Amanda Nicolete, a teacher and resident of the area, this is “a service of poor quality, at risk for workers (working without PPE), at risk for the community, not carried out according to plan. we see several points that do not agree with the plan presented to us, a plan that was never presented in full.

There is also concern among traders about the upcoming high season. Fear that next summer the work on the avenue will not be completed.

“We really need to get this job done. This work must be completed. We are worried that we will arrive in December and this work will be there. To give you an idea, a low season tourist who visits our region to enjoy and taste our cuisine is ultimately disappointed. He arrives here and spends two hours, two and a half hours in traffic to get to the gastronomy point,” said Gilson Bittencourt, President of Codeli (East Island Development Council).

Two seasons have passed, another one is coming soon, and work on Avenida das Rendeiras is not yet finished. The problem is not only in the work that is still underway and being prepared for a very long time. Parts that are considered finished are already deteriorating.

Residents also question the quality of the materials used. In addition to rework, this could mean even more delivery delay. “The progress of the work, besides being slow, is done without the minimum necessary care, even in order to preserve what is being done, so as not to destroy it. So it’s an eternal restart,” Andrea said.

Report BG Floripa sought out the Municipal Infrastructure Secretariat, which preferred to position itself as a memo. The document says that the work is on schedule and part of the work has already been completed.

According to forecasts, lanes with a new coating will be ready by September, and the entire avenue with sidewalks, landscaping, decking and signs should be commissioned by the beginning of the next season. A deadline that residents find hard to believe will be met.
