Celesc (Centrais Elétricas de Santa Catarina) reported that the fire was caused by an overload caused by illegal connections, the so-called “cats”.

“The equipment that caught fire was installed at the facility last Tuesday (16), after the previous one was damaged on the same day and for the same reason,” the company explains.

On Tuesday, a company team (16 people) was on site, who replaced the transformer and disconnected hidden connections, but then they were redone, which led to a fire.

“Celesc emphasizes that it is a crime to covertly connect the power and that the transformer is suitable for servicing ordinary consumers connected to it,” he warns.

New equipment will be placed later this Wednesday and, again, the location’s covert communications will be disabled.
