Two civilian guards on duty saved the life of an 80-year-old woman who choked on a piece of empanada while watching a football match in Moaña (Pontevedra).

According to Meritorious, the event took place around 13:15 last Saturday in the stands of the Iago Aspas football field. Realizing the incident, the two civilian guards who were watching the game came to the aid of the woman, who was already unconscious and with bluish skin.

Between them, they applied the “Heimlich maneuver”, a first aid procedure that consists of compressing the abdomen to cause the object to be expelled from the throat or larynx.

One of the agents is assigned to the Integrated Operations Center (COC) of the Pontevedra Civil Guard Command and the other to the traffic sub-sector.
