Two men robbed a cell phone shop in Calle Alvaro de Carvalho, on the corner with Felipe Schmidt, in Florianopolis late Tuesday morning (2). The perpetrators exchanged gunfire with a plainclothes military policeman, then stole a car and hit five people on the run, including an elderly woman.

The runaway car hit several cars along the way. The GMF (Florianopolis Municipal Guard) managed to stop the car in Beira Mar Norte and arrested one of the men. About ten mobile phones were stolen.

The two suspects were approached in Beira Mar Norte, according to Florianópolis Secretary of Public Security, Colonel Araújo Gomes. One died, the other was arrested. Traffic in the area remains heavy.

The fleeing vehicle drove down the median aisle and hit people who were walking along the middle aisle. Of those who fell under the wheels, first medical aid was provided to a woman and a girl. The woman looked completely shocked, in a state of shock.

Employees of the capital’s immunization van, who were near Thysen, reported that there were a large number of people in the queue and that, fortunately, no one was hurt.

None of the injured are in critical condition. One of the perpetrators was given medical attention, but he died near the Beiramar shopping center.

According to Lieutenant Laurentino of the military fire department who provided assistance, the garrison was called in to help the four casualties.

Two of them received minor head injuries. The third had rib injuries, the fourth had a seizure. The injured were taken to the hospital.

The commander of the municipal guard Valchi Brazil spoke about the joint work of the police and the municipal guard. “I want to congratulate all the actions of the Military Police, the military police officer who was in civilian clothes at the time of the robbery and managed to shoot,” he said.

After a police chase that ended in Beira Mar Norte, the second suspect fled through Celso Ramos Square and was detained by security. He had a 9mm Glock pistol with high firepower.

Around 13:20, traffic was still heavy on Beira Mar Norte. As Brazilil explained, the body of the perpetrator cannot be removed until the arrival of the scientific police, who will inspect the place.

“We will wait for the procedure of the Scientific Police so that the Judicial Police can complete the procedures. At the moment it is not possible to move the body because these technicians have to assess the place,” the agent explains.

The area remains isolated. “We ask for patience, and if the driver can avoid driving along the North Coast, in the direction of the Center / suburbs, it will help a lot,” the commander concludes.
