A 19-year-old man died this Thursday (28) as a result of an explosion at a cleaning products manufacturing plant located in the Vila Nova area, in Isar, in the south of Santa Catarina.
The victim was identified as Eduardo de Cuadros Friske. He was an employee of the company and received medical attention, but could not stand his injuries and died on the spot. According to the rescuers, the worker had severe multiple injuries.
According to the military police, the explosion allegedly took place in a canteen company. In testimony, the owner of the premises said that he was in the office, about 150 meters from the plant, when the explosion occurred.
He also reported that he quickly went out to see what happened and found that the dining room balcony was completely destroyed and the worker was under the rubble.
The owner also said that at that moment they removed the heaviest items and cleared the area. Then they called the Military Fire Department, Samu and PM.
According to witnesses questioned by police, the victim was smoking near the cafeteria and threw the cigarette into the grease trap, causing the explosion. From the impact, fragments of cement flew off and fell on the worker’s leg, causing bleeding.
The Prime Minister confirmed that there was a grease trap at the site and employees’ motorcycles were parked nearby. The matter is now being investigated by the Civil Police.
In a note, JJ Guimarães talked about what happened and said that it would not open this Friday (29). “We regret the irreparable loss of an employee. We want to express our condolences to the family and may God comfort their hearts and all at this very difficult time.
On social media, friends also mourned the death of 19-year-old Eduardo. “You can be sure that you will always be remembered in our hearts,” wrote a colleague. “Life is a box of surprises! Rest in peace, Dudu, you will be missed,” said another.
A wake for the young man will take place this Friday at the funerary chapel of the municipal cemetery of Bom Pastor in Isar.
