A man was sentenced to five years in semi-open prison for setting fire to a wooden house he rented in Uroussang, south of Santa Catarina.
The accused would be unhappy with a request to leave the house made by the owner of the residence. The crime took place in February 2022 in the De Villa area.
According to the documents, the tenant had rent arrears. So, the property owner asked him to leave the premises within 30 days. Displeased, the man set the house on fire by mixing flammable products such as gasoline and cooking gas, which destroyed the house.
In addition, according to Justice, after the military police arrived on the scene, the man on the spot would have ignored the arrest warrant and was immobilized only with the use of physical force.
The defendant was sentenced to five years, five months and 10 days in semi-open prison, in addition to 17 days of arrest, for arson and disobedience. The decision can be appealed. The process is conducted in conditions of judicial secrecy.
