Ricky Martin received a restraining order from Puerto Rico after he was accused of domestic violence. The information was confirmed by the local police this Saturday (2). Representatives of the artist deny all accusations, stating that they are “completely false and fabricated.”
According to The Associated Press, the order was signed on Friday (1) by Judge Raisa Cahigas Campbell of the San Juan Trial Court. The case is contained in Country Law 54, which preserves the anonymity of the whistleblower. The measure is valid until July 21.
Puerto Rican newspaper El Vocero reported that, under a restraining order, Ricky Martin and the other party were in a relationship for seven months, but the singer did not come to terms with the breakup and called frequently.
It is reported that the singer and ex-menudo were seen walking near the man’s house on at least three occasions. According to a police spokesman, the order prohibits Martin “from approaching, harassing, intimidating, threatening or taking any other action that harms the complainant.”
The singer is also unable to call or contact via messages, email or social media. The judge at the hearing will then determine whether the order should remain in effect or not.
The applicant did not contact the police, which would have left the prosecutor’s office to determine whether there was sufficient evidence to bring charges. The application was sent directly to the court.
Artist Statement
In his Twitter account, Ricky Martin reacted to the protection order issued against him. “The protective order against me is based on completely false allegations, so I will take the process with the responsibility that characterizes me,” said the Puerto Rican.
