French-Iranian cartoonist and film director Marjane Satrapi has been awarded the Princess of Asturias Prize for Communication and the Humanities. Satrapi develops its work mainly for the French-speaking market. Her family is a direct descendant of the Qajar dynasty, the dynasty that has ruled Persia since 1781. She is known for her graphic novels. Persepolisan autobiographical work in which she talks about her childhood during the Islamic Revolution in Iran in the voice of a girl.

The award, which honors “work to develop and improve the sciences and disciplines considered humanistic endeavors and those related to social networks in all their manifestations,” was presented last year to Italian philosopher, writer and professor Nuccio Ordina, who died. after the award ceremony, June 10, 2023

Each Princess of Asturias Award is accompanied by a reproduction of a sculpture by Joan Miró – the representative symbol of the award – an accreditation diploma, a badge and a monetary sum of fifty thousand euros.
