First time in the update

Maria Rosalen opened the concerts celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Cómplices de Vibra Mahou, which allows meetings to take place on stages. partners in crime the artist were members of Shinov’s group and they performed together Purple door from Badajoz or version mud birds by Manolo Garcia it made the public go hoarse.

They will be followed by Viva Sweden and Candela Gomez at the Barcelo Theater (November 7). Carolina Durante and Amaral at the Eslava Theater (November 14) and finally Juicy Bae and Albany at Chung Lee Nails (November 23). In Rosalen’s case, performing on stage is not something anecdotal in her career: she advocates an understanding of music as something collective and something common, and she has a long string of collaborations behind her, including names such as Rodrigo Cuevas , Huecco, Pasion Vega, Tanxueiras or Silvia Perez Cruz.

Apart from being the voice in films such as Pink weddingwhy did he take it? Goya for Best Original Song 2021; or the pandemic with its emotional birds in cages; The singer takes the opportunity to sing about social issues or showcase La Mancha folklore when life allows.

A few minutes before her concert, at the end of a long corridor on La Riviera with paintings of bands like Band of Horses, the artist spoke with Independent. And she did this not alone, but under the supervision of the best company: her mother Angelita, who came to Madrid for her daughter’s concert; and from Beatriz Romero, sign language interpreter making Maria’s show one of the few accessible to the deaf.

Question: Why did you change psychology to music?

A.- I was going to become a psychologist and so I studied psychology. It was not my plan to be a singer or to devote myself to it. What became clear to me as soon as I started writing songs at the age of 14 was that even though I was doing it for my four colleagues, I I felt like it saved me. Perhaps the turning point was moving to Madrid to study music therapy. I really enjoyed singing alone and writing and singing other people’s songs. I thought I would do this all my life, but now it’s a different story because it has become my job. I have a very large team, the same as always… and I want to make money from this for the rest of my life.

V.: Music has become your way of life. Does it continue to provide relief?

A.- Definitely. The songs I write are mostly for me. Now the album I’m finishing relief all the time. I’m going to tell you what I experienced during these three or four years during which I hardly released any songs of mine.

Question: You recently published your version Inevitable Shakira, but this song has always been in her repertoire.

A.- This is the song with which I opened my first concerts. At first I had two or three songs and they were pretty bad. So I used versions like this as soon as I sang Silvio Rodriguez, Aute, Residientes, Fito o Platero, Amaral, Shakira…and when I was offered to record it for the 25th anniversary of the album Where are the thieves like a wink to the record company, I didn’t even think about it.

Q: What can we find on your next album?

A.- The truth is that on the album we are making, every song belongs to his father and mother. Eat Latin rhythms, suddenly electronics, there are folklore, symphonic things….it’s a mess, but the topic is very relevant. There’s a lot of love and a lot of heartbreak, and that’s what I’ve experienced the most during this time. [La artista perdió a su padre, Cristóbal, a principios de 2022]

V.- Collaborate with all types of artists and mix musical genres without inhibitions. Is there a red line for Rosalen?

A.- No, for me music is a game, especially when I’m with a group. We are all music lovers and my playlist It’s crazy, from Lola Flores to Soziedad Alkoholika.. Moreover, since I enjoy acting and singing, I want to keep learning, exploring, and getting into trouble. I’m sure I’m wrong and will continue to be wrong, but music is so rich and offers so many instruments…

“As people, I don’t understand why we allow certain atrocities to happen.”

Q.- What do you listen to most now?

A.- For example, the latest album by Rodrigo Cuevas. This morning I heard Maria Pelae, who is also my friend and loves flamenco more. reputation from Zahara… I also play very heavy or rock bands, depending on how I get up. I really appreciate the lists of news and discoveries on the platforms, I get a lot of surprises.

Question: In October you were in the Sahrawi refugee camp in Tindouf, Algeria.

A.- Yes, and it was quite unpleasant. You inevitably link this to what is happening in the Gaza Strip. Since I started working with Bea, we have been singing for the Sahrawi people and have already been to the camps twice. There we do several workshops with abusive women. And this is a personal question, because everyone who has been there knows that they welcome him as one of their own, that they give absolutely everything. Do you understand what it is living on foreign territory with people who experienced exodus, violence, humiliation, occupation…which has been forgotten several times in our country, so you feel very helpless. There we received news of what had begun to happen in Gaza, and it was much more alarming. Conditions in the camps are improving. On the one hand, this is pleasing, because these people deserve to live much better than they are, but on the other hand, it means that things are not going very well and it seems that they will have to stay there, it all seems creepy. to me. As the people we are supposed to be, I don’t understand how we allow certain atrocities to happen.

V. – This is not the only social cause that you position yourself for. Do you think it is an artist’s duty to use their speaker to make a difference?

A.- Don’t know. Since childhood, my favorite artists have made demands or set examples by their behavior. I feel responsible and it’s hard for me, but I think it’s even worse for me when I’m silent., although speaking entails what it entails, and I understand that there are people who no longer want to listen to you or who criticize you. It seems that the most important thing now is not to lose followers, but I prefer to sleep peacefully. It’s true that I’m increasingly afraid to say certain things and I’m well aware that many people don’t want to get involved, it depends on each person’s principles and I respect that. But in my case, coming from a social psychology background and having received the education that my parents instilled in me, I prefer to speak. I hope fear doesn’t consume me completely.

Q: What do you think are the best and worst things about the music industry after these years?

A.- Without a doubt, the best thing is what they tell me on the street, because damn I people say very, very strong things to me. I think it’s because I have songs that deal with sensitive topics such as certain illnesses, suicide or abuse. Even if it works for one person, I’m happy. The worst thing, although this completely compensates, is the issue of exhibition. Every job has something negative, and I wouldn’t trade mine for anything. I feel very lucky.
