From a few days to Vittorini High School of Science in Milan there are two new bathrooms, one green and one blue. They were designed by the students as part of the Pcto project (the former alternation of school and work), but in addition to the colors and decor, the children wanted to put their signature on something, perhaps less tangible, but much more important. “The big news that we are happy to announce,” explains Che. Vittorini’s student team, “is that baths are made mixed, i.e. with free access for all”. New generations are well aware of the importance of fighting for the freedom to live in accordance with their sexual identity without discrimination.

“The proposal of the @che.vittorini team,” the guys explain, “was accepted by the school board, and we, 4 representatives, consider it a great victory. “This really represents,” they explain, “a big step forward in a school model that has adapted to changes in society in recent years.”. It is an expression of greater freedom to express ourselves and be ourselves, and it is important that this is promoted in a school environment that is a place of formation and growth for all of us.” The initiative is part of a series of reforms. which students are calling to meet the needs of trans students. An example is the so-called A career alias that gives students in transition the opportunity to identify themselves at school with the chosen name. Today there are about 20 schools that have adopted the Lombard career pseudonym.
On the other hand, floor-free bathrooms are still not widespread in Italy, even if, as he explains, Republic, in Milan they got to know the Brera Art High School and both places of the Virgilio High School. Vittorini’s solution is a temporary solution for now, an experiment that will last until March, but which, if there are no problems, it could become final and, according to students, spread to other areas of the institute. Vittorini, the students explain, “wants to be a school that makes everyone feel good, that manages to welcome those who are afraid and appreciate those who feel different. We are proud of this goal, the battle she symbolically wages, and the opportunity the school offers, to all of us.”
