A Californian with big blue eyes and a doll face, Pamela was the first groupie in rock history. His story seems to be similar to many others. The daughter of an American working class, she lived a happy childhood and, as a teenager, began to idolize modern rock bands: The Beatles and the Rolling Stones general. We are in the late sixties, and these are the years when music literally steals the lives of young people. Even young Pamela is not immune to this fever, and her dreams come true when the Rolling Stones stay at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles. An ardent fan of the group, fourteen-year-old Pamela decides to go with a group of friends in search of a group backstage at a concert. And guess who’s in front of him? Mick Jagger himself. This was probably the moment when Pamela decided what her destiny would be: to follow her favorite bands on tour, make friends with them and – why not? – their lover. It so happened that as soon as she graduated from art school, she decided to move to one of the most prestigious areas of Los Angeles, the Sunset Strip. To support himself, he hired himself as a nanny to children from Frank Zappa and since then it has been a whirlwind of friendship with the hottest bands of the time, from Don Van Vliet aka Captain Beefheart to Alice Cooper, from Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin to Keith Moon of the Who. Not to mention a fleeting encounter with The Doors tormentor Jim Morrison. With them (and with many others) he began more or less long-term relationships, some even lightning fast, others memorable, such as, for example, with the coveted Mick Jagger. His life was undoubtedly full of adventure, she spent him behind the scenes of the gods. concerts and all over the world.

At one point, Pamela even decided to start her own band, going from being backstage (and in hotel rooms) with music stars to going on stage with a group of girls who, like her, met two very specific requirements: they were beautiful. and sexy and didn’t know how to play. An experience GTO (an acronym for “Girl Together Outrageously”, girls outrageously together) with the support of da Zappa and Jeff Beck lived a very short life and a month after the release of the album permanent damagethe group disbanded. Although this pioneering musical experience was short-lived, it paved the way for other girl groups, leaving its mark not so much on the musical quality as on the originality and irreverence of the project itself. In 1974, Pamela met the great love of her life, a singer and actor. Michael Des Barres, whom he marries in 1978 and with whom he will have a son. Not because of this, his life will become boring, but it is also true that rock was changing, and Miss Pamela was no longer a girl who wanted to travel the world with bands. So, in the eighties, he decides to tell about his life and his experiences in a book that would become one of the most iconic books in the history of rock: I am with a group. Confessions of a Fan (1987). The book is considered not only a memorial, but also a manifesto of groupism, but also (true) evidence of the excesses of those years.
