There is an area in Santa Catarina that is considered a “hot spot” for paranormal activity. This is the Cornelsen road, on the border between the coast of Santa Catarina and the state of Paraná. For years, residents and passersby have reported mysterious events.

According to the researcher, the sightings have been happening since 2010, they are varied and mysterious, each with a feature worthy of a horror film.
Reported incidents include the appearance of strange lights in the sky, glowing orbs chasing vehicles, humanoid creatures, electrical breakdowns in vehicles and electronic equipment, and electromagnetic anomalies that interfere with cell phones and radio signals.
“In 2010, GPUSC began receiving email reports of strange sightings and UFO recordings along the stretch of road.”
According to Prestes Jr., “The messages were always the same: spherical lights chasing vehicles, UFOs crossing the road, and electrical failures in vehicles,” he claims.
Cornelsen’s case began to gain public attention in 2012 and 2014, when it was mentioned in articles in local magazine Giropop, expanding GPUSC’s research to other regions.
In 2015, the case gained national fame when it was published in a prominent UFO magazine.
“This is one of the most intriguing cases we have ever investigated,” Louis Prestes Jr. said.
“The Cornelsen case is not limited to Cornelsen Road; it extends over a large area, from the Gulf of Guaratuba in the state of Paraná to the region of São Francisco do Sul and Garuva in Santa Catarina,” he states.
Field research carried out by the GPUK showed that before the appearance of a UFO or strange lights, the road is shrouded in a mysterious fog.
During and after these events, “electromagnetic anomalies occur that lead to breakdowns of vehicle electrical and electronic equipment, causing confusion for residents and visitors to the region,” explains the researcher.
In 2017, Cornelsen’s case came to the attention of a History Channel crew filming a series about UFOs in Brazil.
In 2018, the case was featured in the “Carona com UFOs” series, bringing the mystery to an even wider audience and making it an important part of the Brazilian UFO Case Series.
UFO researcher and program host Fred Morsch has already spoken to reporters. no date + in other matters and returned again to comment on his point of view on the matter.
“I’m impressed by this because there have been several reports of incidents occurring on the road,” Morsch said.
“What caught my attention was the magnetic interference in vehicles and the ‘chasing lights’.
“People say that the headlights somehow follow cars and trucks, that they have malfunctions or even turn off completely.”

New discoveries in the Cornelsen case
After more than a decade of research, GPUSC has received new information that makes the case even more mysterious.
Origin of Estrada Cornelsen: GPUSC’s initial investigations focused on the approximately 5 km long section of Estrada Cornelsen that connects the municipalities of Itapoa in Santa Catarina and Guaratuba in Paraná.
Intriguing events that occurred at this site included unidentified lights, light spheres, pursuing vehicles, vehicle electrical failures, and electronic equipment failures.
New discoveries and increasing complexity
After more than five years of intensive research, the Cornelsen case turned out to be more complicated than originally thought.
New information, documented events, witness statements and field research indicate connections between events occurring on Cornelsen Road and events in other parts of the region.
The intriguing discovery indicates that the events at Estrada Cornelsen are closely related to the sightings of round and triangular UFOs in municipalities such as Guaratuba in Paraná, and Itapoa and Garuva in Santa Catarina.
Curiosity about the construction of Cornelsen Road
During the study, an interesting discovery occurred. The road was built from material taken from piles of deposits built by ancient indigenous peoples.
Because of this practice, construction was stopped and then resumed using a different material.
Today, a large sambac located next to the road strengthens speculation about the possibility of local spirits being involved in the mysterious events.
Electromagnetic anomaly
It was initially believed that on the section of the road where the events occurred, the electromagnetic anomaly was permanent.
However, field studies have shown that this anomaly is recorded only during mysterious events.
It persists for up to a week after its occurrence, and then disappears, appearing again only when new events are registered.
Event period
Most events are recorded at night, with a higher frequency observed in the early morning hours.
Interestingly, most of them occur during the new moon, the beginning of the waxing phase and the end of the waning phase, although one important event occurred during the full moon, exceeding expectations.
Trapped in the dark
“A few years ago, while driving along the same stretch of road, my car just stalled out of nowhere, stalled! (More details, he didn’t have any problems, it was the whole Curitiba-Garuva trip), but it happened on this leg.
Desperation set in because it was a dark area, there were no houses or businesses nearby, and I did have the strange impression that I was being watched.”

“We have already had experiences in the vicinity of this place, a couple of times, coming from Itapoa, we saw strange and large lights in the area where they disappeared out of nowhere, and did not blink like the lights of an airplane, the sky was transparent.”
When I looked at the sky, I saw a light that was moving very quickly and not in a straight direction, it quickly changed from one place to another, until another light appeared and they met, and quickly each of them went in one direction.”
Red dot
“We saw a red dot that was flashing between red and white very quickly, the object was moving back and forth very quickly.
We watched for a few seconds, and soon after another object of the same size and color appeared, both remained motionless for a few more seconds.
One looked at each other and then they went in opposite directions.”
Chased through the night
“I was returning from Guaratuba to Itapoa and shortly after passing the border bridge on the Cornelsen road, I noticed in the rearview mirror that there was a light coming along the road and I thought it was a truck.
But as the light got closer to the back of my car, I realized that it was spherical in shape and about 1.5 m from the ground.
My car started to break down, I was desperate at the time, I tried to get my mobile phone and noticed that there was no signal, at that moment I realized that a light appeared in my car and then disappeared.”
Humanoid figure on the side of the road
“As I always travel from Guaratuba to Itapoa, I have seen what appears to be a man several times just after the bridge over the Sai Guazú River.”
“He seems to be asking for help, but as we get closer, we feel that the car begins to behave strangely and the creature, which I think was a person, simply disappears. I have heard the same story from other people who have passed through this region.”
The light is coming
“As I was driving through that stretch of road my car started to break down and I had to pull over to the side of the road and I saw a light coming down the road but as they got closer to my car I saw it didn’t mean anything. I could describe it.
They looked like glowing orbs on the highway, then disappeared and my car returned to normal.”
Chased by a fireball
“In Barra do Sai, I saw a long metal object that appeared in the sky out of nowhere and headed towards Garuva. The object was far from where I was, but I could see that it was flying low and was not an airplane or a balloon or anything like that.”
The phenomena occurring in the Estrada Cornelsen area join the mysterious crop circles that have appeared in western Santa Catarina, placing Santa Catarina on the national ufology map.
