An explosion in the sky caught the attention of Santa Catarina residents early last Monday (6). Except that the meteorite exploded, causing an outbreak that could be seen from several cities in the state, as well as from other parts of the south of the country.
The Bramon (Brazilian Meteor Observation Network) cameras at Monte Castelo, the Northern Plateau and Florianopolis recorded the moment of the meteor explosion around 1:00 am. This phenomenon is estimated to have occurred between Bombinhas and Florianopolis. Watch one of the videos:
Conventional monitoring systems could also detect the fall and explosion of the meteor, which can be seen, for example, in reflections on glass, Bramont said.
Such phenomena occur frequently as meteors heat up and explode on contact with the atmosphere, breaking up into smaller pieces. There is little chance that any debris will hit anyone or cause any damage.
