Industrial Engineer Victor Hespaña, from Belo Horizonte, became the second Brazilian in space last Saturday (4th). Accompanied by five people, he participated in the suborbital flight of Blue Origin, owned by billionaire Jeff Bezos.
Takeoff took place at 10:26 am in Van Horns, Texas. The flight lasted about ten minutes and reached a maximum speed of 3,700 kilometers per hour. The six-passenger capsule landed in rural Texas around 10:40 a.m.
Victor won a space trip in a raffle among buyers of a non-fungible token (NFT), a kind of digital signature for virtual objects and files. He spent about 4000 reais using cryptocurrencies.

This was Blue Origin’s fifth space flight. The spacecraft rises just above the Karman line at an altitude of 100 kilometers, defined as the beginning of outer space, and then returns to Earth. During the descent, passengers experience a feeling of weightlessness.
A ship doesn’t need a pilot to go into space. The takeoff is vertical, the capsule and passengers are taken out by a rocket. Three minutes after launch, the rocket separates from the module and heads towards the Karman Line. The two ships are returning to Earth and can be used on other missions.
The first Brazilian to travel to space was professional astronaut and current minister of science and technology, Marcos Pontes, who went to the International Space Station in 2006.
