In 1889, the Second Socialist International declared May 1 as International Workers’ Day, honoring the events in Chicago and commemorating the struggle for labor rights.

Since when is it a holiday in Spain?

In Spain, the adoption of May 1 as a national holiday occurred in the 20th century. Although It began to be celebrated in 1931., during the Franco dictatorship it was abolished. With the advent democracy, Labor Day was restored as a holiday that allows workers to take to the streets to demand their rights.
